Though recognizing that the Kindle is dedicated reading device, we are used to the ease of navigation which common computers perform. And even with printed books, navigation is relatively simple. Flip to chapter headings or open the book to the table of contents to determine where you want to go, particularly in a resource as large as Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible.This edition of Matthew Henry's Commentary really makes reading the commentary on the Kindle a pleasure. Navigating is relatively straightforward and simple. Follow the directions which the publisher gives in the product description on the Amazon product page and you will find where you need to be and can get about the business of reading Henry's comments on the particular passage in question. It took me only a few minutes to get the hang of it.As far as the commentary itself, it is a wonderful devotional commentary written from one Puritan's perspective. You don't have to agree always with Henry to benefit from his work. If you are expecting superficial application and 21st-century illustrations, you'll be disappointed. After all, Henry lived from 1662-1714. For generations, though, readers have profited from Henry's insight. They still do.Having it so easily accessible on the Kindle is incredible. The print version I have in my library is six volumes, and I have it on the Logos Bible Software on my notebook computer. My Kindle now provides the easiest and most convenient way to enjoy Henry at any time and any place.
I have happily used Matthew Henry's Commentary on various sites, such as Blue Letter Bible and Bible Gateway. I knew it was good. But those were the abridged versions. When I found this one, complete and unabridged, I bought it for my Kindle, not realizing what a treasure I was about to find. This complete version absolutely blows my mind! I am amazed at the depth with which Matthew Henry commented on the Bible. I told my daughter that I feel like I have a pastor in my pocket. I love to do personal Bible Study in the mornings, and now I have a commentary that really does justice to the Holy Bible. I would expect the language to be dated and difficult to read, but I don't find it that way at all. It's like he knows how we think nowadays, and he's talking to us here and now. I cannot recommend this complete version any higher!Now I do need to mention one thing. This works fine on my Kindle Voyager and on my phone. However, when I try to open it on my laptop, I get a message that tells me that this Kindle version doesn't work on Windows 8. My other Kindle books open on the laptop just fine, but not this one. Just a heads up for you. But don't let that stop you... this is incredibly good. I'm thinking of buying the whole set in hardback now, just to be sure I have it.
Of all the different Bible commentaries I have read over the years, I have always especially liked the one written by Matthew Henry (1662-1714).
