When I first purchased this book I thought it strictly about climate change, global warming. Although the issue of climate change is clearly the main motivator of the text, more emphasis is placed on methods of efficiency, which for the most part mediates climate issues. That being said, I do not recommend this book to anybody who expects to read it and get a comprehensive summary on what climate change is and the evidence for it. Many ideas to improve the earth are covered and proposed, such as: carbon-free vehicles, efficient production of clean water, clean energy generation and use, and effective energy storage to name a few.Certain other things were interesting:I found it fascinating that Bill officially took a side on GMOs: he's pro GMO now. If anyone follows it closely, you might know that before he was unsure and skeptical of the benefits of GMOs when compared to possible unintended consequences. After visiting a few Monsanto and research facilities (and gonig to an anti-GMO rally), his mind changed. Most of the resistance he has seen to genetically modified foods has less to do with the perceived safety of the food or ecosystems but with a basic mistrust in large corporations.An interesting fact: about 30 percent of the earth is land for us plants and animals; humans farm about 11 percent of that dry land area; and yet 1 and 7 people are hungry. Its not that we don't have enough food he says, because experts estimate only about 55 percent of the calories we produce on farms get successfully incorporated into a humans diets.The only one other species with the power to change the climate of an entire planet, thats the cyanobacteria better known as the blue-green algae.Carbon dioxide molecules allow visible light with certain wavelengths to pass through but block the reradiated light rays that are of a different wavelength (infrared). This is why reducing CO2 emissions is vital towards improving accelerated climate change. Some other interesting methods are reflecting heat into the atmosophere through hydrosol, the name given to when nature produces bubbles in a liquid. Also increasing the albedo (amount of incoming light reflected back into space) by making white roofs and pavement.Bill's sticking points are his lack of transition, despite the text being subdivided by so many chapters, and his frequent excursions; his lack of notes; and his lack of visuals which would have helped envision a lot, especially as a young reader. This book is easy to understand and fun to read. You don't need a degree in engineering or physics to understand the ideas presented in this book. It takes an idea which, regrettably, seems insurmountable at times and breakes it down into bite-sized pieces that leave you feeling hopeful and ready for action. While there are some futuristic technology discussed, most of the potential change would come from existing technology. The suggestions in this book are not only possible, they're doable. Right now.

I recommend this to all students, educators, past and present. You and I live on the same planet, this is our home, we must do something before it is too late.If you are a climate denier, please read, the science is there, it is all around us. Wouldn't it be better to err on the side of caution, rather than when it has caused damage to you personally?Though Mr. Nye and I disagree on certain concepts I whole heartedly support the ideas found in this book, especially the chapters regarding NASA and NASCAR.This should be required reading for everyone.

It is a no-brainer to me lets get ahead of the game and be the ones manufacturing these devices.Lots of subjects, lots of information, best part Bill is the one reading it! Nothing better then hearing his little play on words and jokes in his own voice. I have seen where some people have pointed out some issues with battery power, energy per rate, and so on but to me those are minor things that will not take away from someone wanting to learn more about green energy and making a brighter future. (Yes for a science guy book they should not have made it to the final copy and print but for every day readers I don't think you will notice the issues. If it gets you wanting to know more then Unstoppable did its job and got you on your way to learning more.)

What an amazing book. If you're new to the Nye, this is a great representation of how fantastic he is at communicating scientific ideas, issues and solutions. Climate change is a serious challenge not only for humanity but for the earth as a whole. We're homeowners of a beautiful planet and he describes detailed solutions to some of our challenging problems regarding energy consumption and production.I love that this book is not just another negative look at what it means to live in a world where the climate is changing. There is no blame placed on anyone and it truly looks at it from a thoughtful and scientific view.Five stars for this amazing book!

The good part of this book is that it is a matter of fact book that tells you most back pain can be overcome with simply getting out there and walking an hour. It is the single most helpful thing I have done in my long journey out of back pain. It doesn't cover myofascial pain or SI joint problems but has a brief section on chronic pain. It would be better if it had more on this but Dr. Brown does give you points on when you should "walk it off" and when not to. It does explain well that most pain drugs really aren't that helpful and which medicines he recommends and which exercises he recommends and doens't recommend. I think it is worth reading and listening to his points. It has pushed me to get out there and go further.

I have genetic lower back pain. Read the book. Got and MRI and the book was right on. Followed the advice of Dr.Brown. Stopped anything that would cause irritation. I have had no pain since following his words.

Easy to read when you're in pain with practical advice that really works if you stick to it! Loved it and will recommend to anyone with neck or back pain! I had / have both. Currently doing great!

For anyone one with any kind of back pain---this book is a must read. Dr. Brown covers every kind of back pain in this short, easy to read book. It is indexted so you can go right to your type of problem. This book gave good insight but each back is different as each person is different and I think if you are in real bad pain it takes more of a hands on approach with a really good doctor in addition to your better understanding of your own medical findings, personal symptoms, what works for you and what doesn't and your persistence to seek as many opinions as you think you need until you feel comfortable with the doctor you work with. I never met this doctor but he did do an amazing back operation on my pregnant friend after she gave birth and she recommended I read his book. I am not sure he practices directly anymore but consults or guides other doctors, this I am not completely sure of but I know he has very skilled hands. Either way some of his advice can work great for many but I have yet to find relief only because of a horrible insurance ordeal I have to deal with. Reading it will give you that much more information you should arm yourself with regardless in this area of concern.

This book helped me so much. Reading this and doing the work (walking( consistently kept me from getting back surgery. It's almost like my herniated disc, sciatic nerve has healed itself. I'm still walking. Highly recommend this book for anyone who may be suffering from the same thing.]

"Who is Sherlock? Essays on Identity in Modern Holmes Adaptations", edited by Lynnette Porter, examines the modern adaptations of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s consulting detective – the BBC’s "Sherlock", CBS’s "Elementary", Guy Ritchie’s "Sherlock Holmes" films (starring Robert Downey, Jr.), and "Mr. Holmes" (2015, dir. Bill Condon). When necessary, Porter and her fellow contributors reference everything from Sidney Paget’s original illustrations to William Gillette’s "Sherlock Holmes" 1916 film, the first feature-length film about the detective, up through the popular Jeremy Brett series from the 1980s-1990s. Porter summarizes in her introduction, “Nearly 130 years after the introduction of Sherlock Holmes to readers, the Great Detective’s identity is being questions, deconstructed, and reconstructed more than ever. In this book alone, the authors analyze not only who Sherlock Holmes is or has become, but why and how his identity has been formed in a specific way” (pg. 1).Discussing the role of identity in the "Sherlock" special, “The Abominable Bride,” Felecia McDuffie writes, “Mycroft understands, better than Sherlock does himself, that his detective-persona also has unacknowledged romance embedded in it. Sherlock doesn’t want to be a forensic scientist; he wants to be St. George” (pg. 42). This plays a role in how this version of Holmes casts a Victorian Watson in his hallucination. McDuffie continues, “Sherlock imagines a John as a heroic figure, treating the wounded under difficult conditions. John is his moral compass as Sherlock tries to find his way from what he suspects or fears he is – an addict and a failure – to what he hopes he can be: the ‘gentleman hero,’ the person who can hold himself to a higher moral standard for the people who need him” (pgs. 42-43). In this role Holmes’ most important tool is his mind.Porter examines the portrayal of his Holmes’ thought process and brain attic, arguing, “In canon, as well as in these adaptations, Holmes is defined by the way his brain has been trained to work. Understanding the mind of Sherlock Holmes is key to knowing how Holmes thinks of himself and the ways that everyone else – from friends and family to the general public – perceives him” (pg. 49). Specifically, “Sherlock Holmes’s brain and his thinking process distinguish him from other characters and often make him the object of awe” (pg. 51). While every film finds its own way to demonstrate the superiority of Holmes’s brain and thinking process, Porter argues, “Among adaptations’ visualizations of Holmes’s mind, two stand out as technically superior: the Guy Ritchie-directed "Sherlock Holmes" film series and "Sherlock". They employ sophisticated, innovative uses of filming technologies. (In contrast, "Mr. Holmes" deals with Holmes’s memories through the well-known and often-used flashback, and "Elementary", like canon, most often relies on Holmes’s dialogue to explain his thoughts)” (pgs. 54-55).The visual also plays a role in distinguishing Holmes and his arch nemesis, Moriarty. Heather Powers begins with the Paget drawings and Doyle’s own description, which she describes as “what we would today call ‘profiling’” as Victorians “took for granted that criminals could be identified just by looking at them” (pg. 112). In the original work, “the two characters’ mirroring of one another is clearly indicated by Conan Doyle, although Holmes is on the side of good, whereas Moriarty is his opposite – an evil influence on society. Neither of them possesses the charm that will characterize their later depictions on television or film” (pg. 112). Over time, portrayals of both characters have used more attractive actors to increase their sex appeal, but Powers argues that Moriarty remains the more tantalizing character. She writes, “Because Moriarty’s backstory in canon is limited, he has been largely created by the imaginations of audiences and adaptors. He is a perfect ‘blank slate’ upon whom audiences (and film and television series’ creators) can write their greatest fears and secret desires” (pg. 120). While audiences expect certain elements in Holmes’s identity, Moriarty offers more opportunity for variation.These examinations of identity encourage an examination of Sherlock Holmes’s continued prominence in popular culture. Unfortunately, the book was outdated shortly after McFarland published it as the BBC completed its "Sherlock" series, offering new material for analysis as well as answering the question of Redbeard’s identity. With that caveat in mind, fans of the character and of the recent adaptations will find plenty to enjoy here, though some of the articles read more like well-crafted examinations from fans rather than scholarly works and the BBC series receives the most attention.

I really enjoyed Andy's last book, but this one is too much----too many unknown names (even though some of them like SJP, Anderson, Kelly, Mark, DVJ, etc. can be deciphered), too many marijuana "lollys", too many trips to bars, restaurants, parties, men, etc. I almost gave up halfway through this book, but soldiered on until the end. I hope this will be the last diary and hope he has at last found happiness with the Brazilian Andy Samberg and will, at some point, realized how very fortunate he is to live such a charmed life. I really like Andy Cohen, but he has definitely reached a point of very "shallow" and not very "deep".

I love Andy Cohen, BravoTV and all things pop culture. I kept trying to get through this, but it wasn't very interesting. This is the same format as his last book. Besides his day-to-day diary of his daily activities and which celebrities he hangs out with, it didn't have much more to keep my interest. It was apparent he was trying to keep from giving too much info about his celebrity friends and gossip, which is more interesting than his diary & daily schedule. I kept putting it down from lack of interest.

Boring. No substance, just barely detailed . This should be the last one. Andy has gotten too full of himself and injected himself into the realm of politics uninvited. I'm disappointed in this book and Andy Cohen.

I did not enjoy this book at all. It wasn't even superficial. It was boring. I enjoyed the first book, but I might as well have read the first one again. Nothing new or fresh about this book.

I've read Cohen's other two books: Most Talkative and The Andy Cohen Diaries. I enjoyed Most Talkative -- it was interesting, engaging, and decently written. I didn't care for The Andy Cohen Diaries. The diary format was a slog -- just stream of consciousness, with a lot of names of people you don't know. Although Superficial is also a diary format -- which I still think is a lazy way to write a book -- it's a little easier to read, and somewhat more engaging. There's a little more writing about his thoughts rather than just a summary of actions. I think it also covered a more interesting year since he was doing his tour with Anderson Cooper. But unfortunately, I still kind of walk away from it liking him less, whereas I liked him after Most Talkative. He really does come across as superficial. Not the first time a memoir has changed my view of someone from positive to meh or to negative. (In some cases it's worked the other way.)

I'm a huge AC fan but this was just a waste of time ! The first two were better and he didn't need to bore us with the minutia of the thirsty details of his life with a third. I was curious as to what else he would write about being an AC fan, so I bought this book, but it was a slog. Other reviewers have some good points about the vapidness and boringness of this latest tome of his. Save yourselves, save your time, save your money. You know he's rich you know he's famous, you know he loves random hookups and you know he's married to NBC. Everything else in between -- the name dropping and the travel and his various work commitments and shows -- is just annoyance in choppy detail that leaves gaps in memory (hello Booze) and gaps in editing.

Same anecdotes, same name-dropping, same fabulous life we are apparently presumed to be so interested in that the complete absence of any real-self reflection shouldn't bother us. But for those of us who were fans, the hope of seeing our playboy about town mature beyond his grinder, pill, dope popping nights on the tiles will disappoint. It just made me feel sad. Grow up, Andy, and when you do - write a book then. That might be something worth reading. This isn't it.

This was purchased for my son. It has good information in it that's easy to understand. It arrived quickly. It has good color photos.

the Nelson's Bible had been done with a very good reflection and particularly the need of the student or the reader as well.the work reflect very well the the out come from the scripture, is easy to read and understand as well.the Nelson work keep present the fundamental theology--the presence of God in the history like flesh, language, language of Jesus---also the central core and concerns. Example Revelation- Credibility, - response of faith,--relation with other religions--revelation to history,and in some form even a touch of philosophy.It easy read, and quite well to keep in mid. it is a very good work which I'm supporting.

This has been a helpful source. I have it on my Kindle along with the Chronological Bible. So if the Bible doesn't have a footnote explaining a person, place, etc., I check the Bible Dictionary which has been helpful. Sometimes it has been hard to find a word but I think that has been the "fault' of the Kindle not the source itself.

I give this a 3 star only because it's just a very basic beginner book. Not bad if your just starting your exploration of the Bible.

I received the Student Bible Dictionary, today and I would say that it is a fine dictionary for the price range. For anyone that would want an intensive explanation of names or locations in the Bible it might not give them what they need. But for a quick reference or for beginning Bible students I feel it serves the purpose.

I purchase this Dictionary for my own use it is very detailed and other vital information it breaks down the scriptures in detail i will be purchasing a few more to give as gifts to my church familyand you can't beat the price so worth it
