The coloring book part was nice but the Monday-Sunday arrangement and the way the calendar was arranged made it difficult to use. I give up and am ordering something easier to use.

I was looking for a book to read with my 3 and 4 year old preschool students. I don't really feel like this one is it. The book isn't really entertaining in my opinion. There's a story teller narrating the story and it seems a little bit to "preachy" if that makes any sense. It pretty much tells about him doing things he shouldn't do, having a transformation experience (noticing beauty around him) when the power goes out, and then doing good things. It won't make a very good read aloud book for a classroom, but it might be ok if you were reading individually with 1-3 kids and having a conversation.

I purchased all 3 of the "Little Green Books" in this set - one copy for my 5-year-old grandson, and two copies for our Creation Care Council at Church - 1 copy of each is now on our bookshelf at Church, and 1 copy of each was placed in a gift basket for our Festival. My grandson loved them, and the Chair of our Council thought they were adorable - she chuckled all the way through each of them! These are great books to get younger kids and early readers interested in and involved in recycling and helping to take care of our planet. I highly recommend them!

Fun book. Explains to kids the importance of not wasting in terms they can relate to. The book is fun and and gets its point across. My 5 year old now goes around the house turning off lights.

Such a adorable book about a little monster that does everything inside and really doesn't care. Then one day there is a black out and without any power this little monster goes outside, takes a look around and then with each passing day he finds beauty. Along with great ways to protect the environment that he finds so wonderful! I read this to all my kids for a bedtime story. They all loved it and cannot wait to read it again for earth day. Perfect!

A great book for young kids. We read it to our kindergarten Daisy troop when earning our "Using Resources Wisely" petal. It was an easy read and made some clear points. Then we took a way around the neighborhood and reinforced all the good points from the book. Two thumbs up!

This is such a cute book! The pages are vibrant, colorful, and beautifully illustrated. The message is wonderful. We're a very green hippie family. This was just perfect for our collection!

What a page turner! Once I picked up this book I couldn't put it down. It has everything you want in a good book to hold your interest. As the author seeks to unravel a centuries old family murder mystery we are led through a labyrinthian path of Italian bureaucracy as Helene seeks to disentangle years of documents that have not been open for over a century. Kudos to her for her persistence involving not one but two lengthy visits to Italy. During her journey you will meet all types of Italian characters both in this century and the 19th. And you will gain a new Italian vocabulary that will serve you well in your next visit to Italy. All the while you will anxiously await what the next page will bring. Helene's prose flows so effortlessly that you will hardly believe how fast her family saga comes to a conclusion. I can't wait to read her other books and you will too after you read this one!

I just finished Helene Stapinski’s Murder in Metera and am writing this review immediately, after wiping away my tears. What a great book. And yes, it’s a great story, but it’s so much more than that. This is my favorite kind of non-fiction, in which the central tale unfolds in tandem with the history that surrounded it, with creative imaginings – all beautifully written – weaved in. Helene Stapinski struck that perfect balance. While I discovered the truth of the tragic life of her great-great-grandmother, I not only I learned about life in Southern Italy in the late 1800s – which was never less than fascinating – but also about Stapinski’s own journey as a writer and a detective and as a mother searching for the truth behind the family murder while raising her kids. It captured me the way Jon Krakauer does especially in Into Thin Air. Every detail was compelling in Murder In Metera, the way fish curing was compelling in The Perfect Storm. I sped through this book. I was surprised at every turn, right to the very end, when I was flat out crying. Stapinski’s writing had me laughing most of the way through even though the details of the story are mostly sad. She writes like she’s telling the story out loud, maybe to her children, the way the story had been passed down to her (and lost in the process!), with all the colloquialisms and sayings from Southern Italy to Jersey City. I highly recommend Murder in Metera.

Many big differences really, beginning with the author's passion and the wonderful characters, the holy and unholy places, the excellent local food and the beautiful scenery. This is a first person adventure that takes the author from Jersey City to Siena, to Brooklyn, and then, most tellingly, back to Italy, to the deep southern Italian province of Basilicata.Remote and picturesque Matera, Bernalda and Pisticci hold secrets they are reluctant to reveal. The author returns again and again; she is determined and persistant, so much so that we become parties to her quest, learning history going back to the Greeks, who colonized the area centuries earlier, to the impoverished citizens and their oppressers who followed, to the present day, where, in many ways, little has changed. Language barriers are overcome, the reticence of the locals is breached, family connections are raveled and unraveled, and the warm comradery of those who join the author in her quest is rewarded, but only after a great many surprises. You will be fortunate, as I was, to go along for the ride.

The author describes her view of her mother’s family, a mindset of an American girl living in New Jersey during the 1960s and looking back to Italy through Ellis Island. She always believed her great-great grandmother, Vita Gallitelli, had murdered someone in southern Italy before immigrating to America. As Helen matured and mothered her own children, she worried that somehow the murdering gene might come out again some unlucky day. So, she decided that instead of sitting around worrying about the potential danger, she should try to look directly at the evil, find out the details, and then she might know better what she was up against.Mind you, this was not her deciding to get on her computer, become a member of a genealogy site, and discover what she could from the comfort of her American home. She had bigger plans and made bigger sacrifices. She traveled, not once but twice, to the very towns in Italy where her ancestors had lived. She took time, overcame obstacles which would have stopped others, and spent a lot of time looking at any paper files she could find with the help of Italian researchers, so that she could really know what had transpired and why her Vita had left Italy.And for all of that, she did find a lot more information. She discovered the abject poverty her great-great grandmother was born into, and the hopeless situation in which people of her class found themselves. She discovered that Vita Gallitelli had indeed married Francesco Vena; but that Francesco was not her great-great grandfather because HE was spending a miserable sentence in prison because of the murder HE had committed, all because of stealing pears. Vita and Francesco had a son who died, but Vita had several other children when her husband lay in jail, due to being another man’s mistress (her way of surviving). The trip to America came many years later when one of the oldest boys had already made a place for Vita and a younger son and a younger daughter. Vita left her benefactor and made a very difficult Atlantic voyage, losing her 7-year-old daughter while in transit. Finally, the author learned of the struggles Vita and her two surviving boys has faced in the melting pot of America, with Vita dying in 1915, in her sixties, a victim of the annual “night of mischief” when a boy had hit her head with a sock stuffed with rocks.

This is a wonderful reference book. My mother's Franciscan pattern was a mystery until I found it in this book.

This book gave us so much info. Wish there was something out there with an updated list of all pieces made and a current price sheet?

This book was to be my introduction to Franciscan dining services before I bought some vintage pieces. The book satisfied my need for reference. I'm pleased with my purchase.

If you want the curent average price of Franciscan serving pieces, this is not your book. If you want excellent color photos of the breadth of the Franciscan Ware line, clear photos of the various trademarks, and a concise history of Franciscan Ware, then this is an excellent book. I am afraid that it will eventually prove to be one of the most expensive gifts I have ever given.

I think by now the idea that the United States government may do something internationally for their own sometimes narrow self-interest, even if it violates other things we claim to care about like democracy or human rights is not a radical concept, but one can still feel a sense of outrage and disdain for the events depicted in Bitter Fruit as the US government launched a coup against the elected government of Guatemala on the flimsy grounds of Guatamala becoming a hotbed for Soviet/Communist activity when in reality it was really a powerful American owned company that had its business interests threatened.One can feel the indignation as they turn the pages of Bitter Fruit that the coup plan would extend so far into the US government at a point in time where the US government had just won World War II and stood for freedom and democracy for such a relatively minor business interest. As we sit and think about it, maybe it was just a harbinger of things to come, is it not a similar idea behind Middle Eastern oil or Geopolitical self-interests? The United States will support any bad guy as long as they give the US what they want.Perhaps the big story is not that it happened, but that it could happen again.

I first heard of the book, Bitter Fruit, when I was traveling in Guatemala. Our half Mayan guide told some stories of his country's recent history, of massacres and bombings, and of the severe hardships his family endured while he was growing up. Although he mentioned that those horrors were executed by those who were financed, trained, and directed by the USA, I had no knowledge of the history of that part of the world or of my country's intervention. When I returned home, I ordered the book on Amazon for about half the price it sold for in Guatemala.I had thought it would be hard reading as an academic production. I was wrong. This carefully documented book gives in great detail the recent history of Guatemala, and America's role in that history. For me, it was extremely interesting. It read like a John Grisham novel; I couldn't put it down; I wanted to know what happened next. Tragically, it is a true horror story, with terrible consequences for Guatemala and thus for all of us. An estimated 200,000 Guatemalans died in a civil war begun by the clearly illegal and immoral actions of the USA CIA and army, with the knowledge and approval of US Presidents starting with President Eisenhower. As a result, progress in such matters as land reform and justice for all in Guatemala has been compromised to this day.I hope that all Americans read and take to heart this very powerful book.

I ordered this book because I had to give a conference in Guatemala and was confused about the beginning of the country's long armed conflict. I figured this was a good place to start, and it was. It helped me understand better not only the American role in Guatemala, but also a lot of the current attitudes and opinions in Latin America about work, big international companies and America.Unlike some reviewers, I don't find it biased at all, in fact I read it without much knowledge of the conflict and understood clearly both sides of it. This isn't a story about good innocent guys suffering from the hands of bad gringos, it's a story about wrong incentives both among Guatemalans and owners of the United Fruit Company.I currently work in a Mexican company started by one of the 150,000 Guatemalan immigrants of the 80s. I had never given much thought on this before, but now I can even relate better to the history of my own job and the nature of some cultural traits I find both in Mexicans and Guatemalans.

Schlesinger and Kinzer did indeed write a classic. The book is well-written and very readable. While it is certainly an academic work and may be considered a textbook, it is not as dry as such the connotation suggests. On the contrary, the story at times feels like a best-selling espionage novel or a Hollywood conspiracy-theory movie, but much better in my opinion.More importantly, Bitter Fruit is supported by excellent sources - many Freedom of Information Act documents and also many memoirs and interviews of people involved in the events. This is comforting and assures that while the book is almost written in the style of a fictional thriller, the authors did not take any liberties of rewriting or embellishing history to make the book more fun to read.Schlesinger and Kinzer also do an excellent job of providing the background of the parties involved and the historical context in which the revolution and coup took place. They also wrap up the book well in their 'Aftermath' final chapter and provide much needed closure to the story, in which they discuss the fates of the major players since the coup.Highest recommendations.

I am dying to see this story go to marriage on all accounts. I love how you are letting the characters become stronger and more sure of themselvs like Jessica. She will be ok she has a great group of friends. I cannot wait,I really really hope Tyler asks her to marry him and she says yes. What an awesome story that would be.

Cara Miller is a great writer. I read five of her books and they aall keep your interest. They all get 5 stars from me

This is one of the best book series I've read yet I can't wait until the next comes out. Combined love story and the struggles of kids from different worlds entirely.

I loved them all! I was disappointed when I finished book 19 that there was another one and it wouldn't be out until September 2017.I really like the way when one book ended the next one picked right where the previous one ended.

Knowing that the Catholic Church has survived 2018 years in spite of many bad leaders, including one of the original twelve, gives me comfort in the current crisis. This book reminds me that when we hold on to the teachings given by Christ, early church fathers, and our faithful current leaders, we will not be led astray. There always have been and always will be those leaders who wander away from what Christ taught.

Thank you brother Bennett for reminding me that Jesus himseld said of the Chutch, “... the gates of hell will not prevail.” It is encouraging to see what “bad shepherds” Holy Spirit inspired laity had to endure and overcome in the past. It gives me hope for the future of our bruised and battered Body of Christ.

It's about time a Catholic writer broke popular precedent and wrote openly about the bad popes and bishops that have been recurrent problems throughout Church history.We might well include the situation with this current pope, who seems to be exactly the pope we DON'T need right now. Going with the flow of the culture, he downplays the problem of sexual immorality and prioritizes concerns about global warming, pollution and capitalism, while the family collapses.This author's treatment of problems in the Church was too flippant and unserious for intelligent consideration of such an important subject. And because the book focuses on only bad shepherds, it leaves the reader with a feeling of disgust about the Church, religion in general, and about the ways God works in the world. Interspersing the text with more uplifting material would have provided some needed balance.Also, a broader theological question needs to be asked: why would God allow the Chair of Peter to be filled by such people? Yes, even Jesus had to deal with a Judas, but Judas was not in a position of absolute authority. And do we owe obedience to bad shepherds? Perhaps the Church should clarify a "conscience clause" that makes it clear that no Catholic need ever surrender his right to personal discernment where the authority of a church leader--even the pope-- is concerned. If there is such a clause, then the author of this book should have discussed it, but his flippant and sometimes even silly treatment of the subject matter of this book did not go deep enough to allow for such important discussions. A lost opportunity.

Wonderfully written! Very educational and inspirational to fight back against the evil that continues to attack OUR Church. It very simply reminds the reader of the Church's past and how WE the laity, the faithful, the Church's support network has always guided the Church of our fathers' back into the light and on steady, straight paths.

If you like history told as a if it is family history this is for you.Mr. Bennett takes cardinal historical events and deftly walks you through it regardless of your historical knowledge or religious affiliation.We are living in a time of historical and theological significance. Let's not repeat past mistakes. If you want to have an understanding of what is happening and what is at stake read this book.The authors writing style is at a level that is educational and meant to inform the reader. He doesn't wag his intellectual finger at you but engages the topic at a level that will have you wanting even more information. This is the second book of his that I have read, and have passed this particular one onto others to read. It is worth your time to inform yourself.

Rod Bennett has written parts of Church history in a very readable way, even including some humor. When he talks about the villain shepherds, he is not demeaning or nasty. Rather, he presents information and even explains some of the historical and cultural context that contributed to popes, bishops and priests going bad. He expresses compassion where that is called for. It seemed to me like a fair and accurate rendering of the history it presented.The book also clearly shows the wisdom of the Church and her power and authority, and the government and its power and authority, being separate. As Shakespeare told us plainly, "Power corrupts..." When the Church and politics were enmeshed with each other, power corrupted many in both realms!This book showed me that, not only has the Church weathered other storms -- it has weathered storms as severe, if not more severe, than the storm we are embroiled in now. The Holy Spirit -- the true head of the Catholic Church, does prevail and keeps even the gates of hell from destroying Christ's Church. He always has; He always will. And He very much uses the faithfulness of the lay people of the Church to do so.So my fellow lay people, I highly recommend this book for the encouragement it will give you to persevere and hold tightly to the true teachings of the Church during the current crisis we face. Our prayers and our insistence that the Church be purified and renewed in truth and justice will play an important part in that coming about, as it has in every other crisis the Church has faced in her 2,000 year history.

About the Author

Brooke Ingersoll, PhD, is a psychologist and board-certified behavior analyst with a doctoral degree in experimental psychology from the University of California, San Diego. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical child psychology at the Child Development and Rehabilitation Center at Oregon Health and Science University, Portland, during which time she served as codirector of the Autism Treatment and Research Program at the Hearing and Speech Institute (now known as the Artz Center) in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Ingersoll is currently Assistant Professor of Psychology at Michigan State University, East Lansing. She has conducted training for practitioners on early intervention strategies for children with autism spectrum disorders both nationally and internationally. Dr. Ingersoll has published extensively on early intervention for children with autism spectrum disorders and presented her work at professional conferences.   Anna Dvortcsak, MS, CCC-SLP, is a speech-language pathologist in private practice in Portland, Oregon. She received her master’s degree from the University of Redlands, California. Mrs. Dvortcsak provides training to families with children with autism and individualized speech and language services. She specializes in training professionals in conducting parent training for young children with autism spectrum disorders. I got this book because it was cheaper than traveling 40 miles for 12 weeks to learn about Project IMPact. Since I have family members familiar with speech pathology I sought them out when I needed clarification. With that said, the book and the DVD have been supremely helpful in getting my child to start communicating socially. One of my biggest mistakes was that I would always ask him questions which made the conversations one sided and did not give him an incentive to speak up. Thank you for such a helpful communication book. The sections are set up and are designed to help parents implement the program successfully. The practitioner's manual is helpful and I make sure to get feedback when we go to speech.

Work in a hospital as slp. Love this for training parents how to interact w austic kids in a team approach! Parents like it too, helps understand how to connect w their child!

Bought 2, one for me and one for a co-worker. I love Juniper's calendars. It's my second year in a row getting one and they're just so charming and sweet. Everyone comments on how cute they are and then I get to explain Juniper, Moose, and Fig. They came quickly, in great condition, and I'm so glad I got to start 2019 off with Juniper.
