Frostgrave is a narrative tabletop skirmish game that is rules-lite but still complex enough that good strategy is as important as lucky dice. The fact that there is an advancement and treasure system that carries between battles allows your warband to change and grow over time (or be wiped out when everything just inexplicably goes wrong.)While there is a line of miniatures for this game it is very friendly toward substituting fantasy minis of your choice. Optional Rules and Expansions keep things fresh and can be used to ramp up the difficulty and complexity of the game is you become more familiar with it.The only problems that I had with this game are firstly that just playing the few scenarios in the core book becomes repetitive, which means you're going to want to pick up expansions quickly and also become adept at designing your own scenarios and campaigns. Fortunately this is quite easy once you get the hang of it. Purchasing the Ulterior Motives expansion, which adds random and sometimes hidden secondary objectives for each player is virtually a MUST. If you pick up only one Expansion make it that one.Secondly, I've had to house-rule some of the Random Monster behaviors to make them more dangerous. Using the existing ruleset I've generally found that Random Monsters tend to show up, mill around a bit, and then wander away. Increasing their "detection range" and making them move directly toward the middle of the table on their first activation if no enemies are in line of sight helps this tremendously.Aside from those nitpicks I would say that this is a good way to spend 45 minutes to an hour, and if you add names, backstory, and narrative to each game you play it's very much like playing a D&D dungeon crawl, where each player controls a party of adventurers that are all competing for glory and treasure in the same ruins.

This book is great! The art is beautiful, the rules are clear and well presented. It even includes a campaign you can play through. You can play this game with any figures you already own. I've been using mini's from boardgames as both my warband and the monsters. This game is a lot of fun to play. If you are getting into Tabletop Wargames or want to spice up your games this book is for you. I also recommend the expansion booklets.My only criticism is that the spells are repeated; they give you a list of spells with all there information and then at the end of the book they repeat the same info in cut out card form. Yes, that's nitpicking and photocopying the cards straight from the book could be useful, but you can download them from the website for free.

Frostgrave is a fantastic book on miniature wargaming with a focus on a Magic user (Wizard) being the leader of a small group (around 10 figures) exploring and competing for treasures in a magical city. The city has been frozen for a thousand years and now has become exposed! The background is simple yet complete enough to give great flavor. There are ten different magic using types of characters each with their own spell list and flavor. The combat system is also simple and deadly with everything resolved via a dice roll on a twenty sided dice (d20). There are multiple scenarios with lots of different settings and special events. The ruined city is truly filled with magic and the writing includes fun sidebars discussing the kind of things going on to spark your imagination. The players get to create a location (again with flavor that means something) to operate from as a sort of base. Between games they can add to and improve that same base. Additionally, random events can happen to bring different situations to light. For anyone thinking of putting together a miniature game for beginners or a group this is an excellent resource! I can't wait to run this in some of our gaming stores and for friends!

Holy sweet christmas! What a fun but laid-back casual skirmish game! You get the customization and modularity of using any terrain and miniatures you like and the feeling of both tactical tabletop war games and old school RPGs. Lots of fun, easy to houserule things in and out, and the setting premise (wizards and their mercenary bands exploring an ancient frozen city filled with monsters, competing looters, and treasures galore) are very appealing.The downsides I'm seeing after playing a few times are more about game balance. Each wizard picks one of 10 schools of magic (each with 8 spells) as a primary school, but not all the schools' spells are very well balanced, and the inherent leveling-up system seems to reward a few schools WILDLY over others (especially the Elementalist). Further, I don't understand why you can just convert gold and found relics into any items you want (even said rare magical treasures found in the game); I plan to house rule that you can buy anything *except* the magical treasures, as that's the whole point of the game! But honestly those are minor gripes.It's a fast-to-learn and fast-to-play somewhat rules-light game. Great for gamers on a time crunch, for introducing new players to the hobby, for an inexpensive skirmish game (literally any minis/terrain will do!), and for hobbyists in love with frozen lands terrain!

I bought the PDF version a while back, but growing up with actual books I had to to order the actual hardcover. PDFs can be convenient, but aren't as easy to thumb through!I've not yet played a game, but this is a neat little ruleset. If you ever played HeroQuest/Warhammer Quest or similar type games, Frostgrave runs in that vein of game systems. It's a skirmish based wargame, meaning you're only going to need a few miniatures, not a horde of them like you would need for a standard fantasy/medieval themed game.If you already have a good supply of fantasy miniatures you're probably already set to play. All you'll need is scenery, which is easily made or purchased. Lots of fantasy/medieval themed paper building models are available that are quite suitable for Frostgrave.Is there violence? Well, it's kind of a wargame, so...

Love this cookbook! Recipes are so easy to follow with great instructions.

This book is a must have for anyone wanting to eat clean and get more nutrients into your meals. I love how it teaches you to add Chia into some food you might already eat such as bread, muffins, and even smoothies. I like the explanation of Chia and all of its benefits in the beginning and I really like the well thoughtout index. There are tons of beautiful pictures in this book. I wish there was a picture for every single recipe, but they got most of them!So far my favorite recipe is the Roasted Red Pepper Hummus! So yummy! I was worried about how it would taste when I was halfway done mixing but once everything was put together and I tasted it, my taste buds did a happy dance! I even had a friend try it, who normally doesn't like hummus but, he loved it .

Schetselaar and Rule have done it again!! Grain Crazy and Quinoa Crazy are loved and well used in our house, and Chia Crazy is definitely another win! So far we have tried the almond joy smoothie, whole grain pancakes, lentil chicken stew, and chocolate chip muffins, all with healthy ingredients and all utilizing super healthy chia seeds. All of those recipes are absolutely delicious and are toddler and husband approved! Thank you for helping me feed my family healthy, yummy food!

I'm a BIG Chia Seed fan. Actually a fanatic. though in recent years I've slacked off in my usage. Nailpaul draws the parallel themes between this practical acceptance of Africa and that of the Hindu doctrine of Karma.Naipaul is probably the most focused writer of our times. Kafka was certainly a good writer, but he has a very unique style that not everyone is going to like.Much of this writing is done with long, rambling description that are so detailed and so depressing that if you have my sense of humor, they become funny. For those anime fans reading this, it's a lot like the Monogatari series. I seriously can't tell if you'll like these stories or not, but I did.

I enjoyed this edition very much. It is a well-readable translation in a nice quality hardback with good paper. Unless one is a Kafka devotee, this plus "The Trial" will satisfy almost any reader.

Existentialism abounds in this collection of all the works Kafka published in his lifetime. This is an indispensable book for anybody interested in Kafka, but it does take a fair amount of reflection to grasp what message Kafka is communicating. Many of his short stories are collections of more short stories—some as short as a paragraph. Although at times seemingly disjointed, the common thread of what it means to exist and how it is we find our own meaning in life brings the stories together in a haunting way.

His stories were always different and interesting. Some of his stories you scratch your head at the last page and think " what in the world was he talking about ?" But always an experience.

Whatever sexuality and violence referenced are implied raather than overt; what violence is overt, it is tame compared to 21st century United States standards.

Brod got a good bit of it wrong. The Trial was of course well worth saving from the fire, but that and this collection of stories would have well set a legacy unto themselves. Though I think the Muirs translation is rather clunky, the stories themselves are just magnificent. I hadn't actually read The Metamorphosis since grad school, and even now being able to look behind the curtain a bit is of no problem and only lends further depth to my awe. My absolute fav remains In the Penal Colony--a story as biting now in its handling of tradition and its adherents as any. Kafka is a name for a reason, and not because Brod saved a lot of fragments from the flame. This collection is more than most writers could ever hope to accomplish.

I get Kafka...but this was poorly put together and would benefit from some editing to smoothe out the translation.

This is my fave of the 10 Poem Series after Ten Poems to Set You Free. The pages on this are different to the other books, they look all jagged which I like as it makes it look old. Roger Housden's insights give another layer of meaning to poems I probably wouldn't normally understand. Nice essays and something to dive into again and again and pick up new meaning.

I love this series of 10 poems books. The first book I bought was 110 love poems. I loved it and decided to try one of the 10 poem series. I fell in love with they was he gave depth to each of the poems. I went and bought all of this series and this is the last one. I went back to reread 110 love poems, and I found that reading the 10 poem series added depth to all of the poems, since I now read them in a new light. Thank you!

Was a gift for someone else! ...because it's an all time favorite of mine! I read one poem at a time in the book and savor it. I also have "Ten poems to Change Your Life " Love the original poem and then can't wait for Rodger to break it down...love what he does with it.

Thus penguin chick Tango, hatched from a fertilized egg given to the pining, bewildered pair, came to be "the only penguin in the Central Park Zoo with two daddies." As told by Richardson and Parnell (a psychiatrist and playwright), this true story remains firmly within the bounds of the zoo's polar environment, as do Cole's expressive but still realistic watercolors (a far cry from his effete caricatures in Harvey Fierstein's The Sissy Duckling, 2002). Emphasizing the penguins' naturally ridiculous physiques while gently acknowledging their situation, Cole's pictures complement the perfectly cadenced text--showing, for example, the bewildered pair craning their necks toward a nest that was "nice, but a little empty." Indeed, intrusions from the zookeeper, who remarks that the nuzzling males "must be in love," strike the narrative's only false note. Further facts about the episode conclude, but it's naive to expect this will be read only as a zoo anecdote. However, those who share this with children will find themselves returning to it again and again--not for the entree it might offer to matters of human sexuality, but for the two irresistible birds at its center and for the celebration of patient, loving fathers who "knew just what to do." Funny - as I finished reading this beautiful book for the first time, one of my old favorite songs (by Hal David/Burt Bacharach) as a child growing up in the 60's started playing in my head...What the world needs now is love sweet love,It's the only thing that there's just too little of.What the world needs now is love sweet love,No not just for some but for everyone!The simplicity of the words husband and husband team Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell have used to tell the true story of a couple of male chinstrap penguins (Roy and Silo) at New York's Central Park Zoo, who had paired off as a couple and were given an extra fertilized egg to hatch on their way to becoming a family unlike any of the zoo's other animal families (but a family nonetheless!), makes this book a perfect way to begin naturally introducing the concepts of acceptance and inclusion to youngsters. The soft illustrations by Henry Cole are such a nice complement to the story - I'm really looking forward to sharing this special book with our four grandchildren, who will most certainly be meeting many families of varying composition during their lifetimes! The way baby Tango and his dads are welcomed by the children coming to see them after his birth is a good "footprint in the sand" to leave on a child's growing sense of the world around them.I'm a dozen years late in my personal discovery of the book, so I missed the brouhaha surrounding its 2005 publication, having appeared on the American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom's "Top Ten Most Challenged Book List" from 2006-2010, reappearing in 2012, and - sadly - again as late as 2014. This is such a gentle book, and to imagine literature that celebrates the love and devotion of parents would ever appear on such a list is disheartening. This is a sweet book that talks of the desire to share a home and a family (I'll type the text in the comment section below for parents/grandparents to read for themselves if they're on the fence about the book.) The younger of my two sons is gay, has been in a committed and happy relationship with his partner for seven years, and should they eventually marry and decide to begin a family, it would be so painful to the heart of this mother to see his family shunned or ridiculed. I hope the authors have not experienced it since the birth of their own daughter, little Gemma, whom I suppose is about 8 years old now and feeling very loved and secure.Children are drawn to books about animals, there aren't too many animals cuter or funnier than penguins, and if you're a parent or grandparent who's searching for ways to begin opening your child's mind to the concept of the different types of families they'll encounter (or may be a part of!) along life's journey, as I myself have been, I think "And Tango Makes Three" is a nice place to start.

I am so happy to have finally purchased this book! As an educator, I am excited to share this book with my students during "Banned Book Week" as I know that they will ask the reason why this book is banned from so many different schools and libraries. It's an added bonus that Neil Patrick Harris narrates the audiobook.

Got this for my goddaughter for her Christmas. I babysat her and she played dolls with me and insisted that the house had to "have a mommy and a daddy and a boy and a girl" (she's 4), so I got this so she could learn about all different types of families and what families can look like. She loved it because of the penguins and the story is just the cutest. Her mom was thrilled too.

When I bought this book I had read it before. I loved the story I loved the cute penguins but I also loved how this book taught love and acceptance. At first I was a little worried to show it to my administrators at work (I work at a preschool) but they all LOVED it and were raving about it! I had the book for a few short weeks. It was the most loved book of the classroom. All the kids loved tango, so much so when they see a penguin it's not a penguin it's tango. The kids are to young to understand the part of tango having two daddies. But they do know that the daddies love tango. This book teaches them at a young age that love is love and Roy and silo love tango, and that's all that matters. I'm ashamed to say the book has since been lost, I had it in a special spot and when I returned from vacation it had vanished. No where to be found. I have a coworker who is religious and known for taking books with themes he doesn't believe in. Sad thing is I bought this book with my own money.It's a lovely look and I hope you and your children can enjoy this book together.

My son and me love to read this book, the illustrations are very cute too. I really like that it is a true story and that it depicts a lot of our beloved central park zoo.
