Susan comes up with another winner - both beginning tassel makers and experienced designers will appreciate this book. This book is a sophisticated sequel to her earlier The Art of Tassel Making. Basics of tassel anatomy and construction techniques will ease beginners into this wonderful textile art. Among the most useful tips for experienced tassel makers are instructions on how to replicate vintage jasmine petal components, decorative strips and flower centers by embroidering over a sheet aluminum base. Also detailed are ribbon flowers, chevron wrapped and peyote stitched tassel heads, and beaded overskirts. The impeccably constructed tassels are simply but beautifully photographed, and Jane's illustrations are easy to follow. Seven tassels pictured are fairly basic in style and construction, with the remaining nine showing various styles of additional embellishment. This book is another "must have" for anyone smitten with the creative art of tassel making! On the negative side, be forewarned that the much-awaited Suppliers List does not contain any US suppliers; this was a major disappointment. Other than that omission, Susan's new book was another delightful read from beginning to end.

Interesting read that opened my eyes to the connections and disassociations between marginalized communities in the US and the Muslim American experience. Drawn in by Beydoun’s honest reflections on his own upbringing and experience in Detroit and how this shaped his perspective in his professional life.

I do not usually blurb/review books, but wanted to take a moment to mention that Khaled's work centers anti-Black discrimination in Islam, points to Black Lives Matter as central and a starter to current activism, credits Muslim women with anti-Islamophobia work, and speak out on homophobia/transphobia among Muslims. Personal touch in the Epilogue made my eyes water. Enjoyed reading.

Professor Beydoun is able to very masterfully clarify the mechanisms by which Islamophobia is sanctioned by and tolerated through United States law, even pre-dating the post-9/11 moment. Very clear book which lays out his argument in an understandable way even for people who have not studied law (like me).

This book was decent for extra practice, but certainly not the best of the available options. I found the Manhattan Prep books to be much more helpful and they were geared toward asking the questions in the same format as on the GRE. Most of the Kaplan questions were not formatted like they are on the actual test.

I tutor the GRE professionally, so I am reviewing this book from that perspective. The short answer regarding whether this book is useful is no. Since ETS makes so many verbal questions available, and since the technique offered by this book is so rudimentary, I don't recommend it.I'll start with technique. Kaplan techniques are simple at the expense of effectiveness. They may work on easy Kaplan questions, but for many, they won't work very well on harder, more complicated GRE questions. For example, all reading comprehension question types are lumped into the same technique. It would be great if it were that simple, but it's not.The practice questions in the book look like GRE questions, but upon closer analysis they are much simpler and more straightforward. There is little point practicing with questions that would be way too easy for the real GRE to ever use. The reading passages are often FAR easier than any you'll see on the real GRE.The essay examples provided by the book lack critical thinking, merely presenting one side of an issue instead of analyzing the issue's complexity, counterarguments, and implications of the essay's thesis. These are not good models for your writing compared to the real sample essays that ETS provides for free on its website. Furthermore, there is no good reason to practice with Kaplan essay prompts; ALL the prompts ETS uses are published on its site.The book does have a good vocab / word roots section and some useful writing drills. But instead of using this book, I highly recommend you practice for GRE verbal with ETS questions and books. Try Manhattan Prep if you'd like more robust technique, as well.

This book really helped me prepare! I would order it earlier next time to have a little more time to prepare.

Kaplan is really the best line of review/test prep books out there, imo. I've had some Princeton Review books in the past, but they were very poorly organized and FILLED with errors.

It is above all the most important document by a senior leader operating in a closed political system since _Khrushchev Remembers_, primarily because, like the Tiananmen Papers, it lifts the veil on political life among the handful of decisionmakers in the People's Republic.And some of this - but not very much - is in the Tiananmen Papers. For the most part, however, Zhao is laying in his own record of events that he personally participated in, leading with the Tiananmen incident of June 1989, but going back to the beginnings of reform and opening, for which Zhao's leadership in Sichuan province (and Wan Li's in Anhui) were seminal in the testing of agricultural reforms that were the foundation of China's present relative prosperity, and forward to an evaluation of China after Zhao's political demise and Zhao's evaluation of the leaders he worked with during nearly a decade at the center of the storm in Beijing.Throughout, Zhao relies on what must have been a prodigious memory - assisted, almost certainly, by former assistant Bao Tong and other friends and colleagues. It's interesting, though, that Zhao gets some dates wrong (as pointed out by editorial notes by Bao Pu, son of Bao Tong), which suggests that, unlike most other memoirists, he had no documentation to work from and had to rely solely on his own notes and recall. From Zhao we get marvelous glimpses of how petty and preening life at the top was - and almost certainly remains, in a land where Politburo members are treated, except by themselves, as living gods. Moreover, following reports of a meeting between Deng and two other of the "Eight Immortal" senior party elders, Zhao gives a nod to their characterization of Deng's role as an authoritative "mother-in-law" to the Politburo Standing Committee, observing that this was an apt way of describing how the system worked. We also get detailed confirmation of how great a pack of old fools, opportunists, and ideologues were men like Li Xiannian, Bo Yibo, Li Peng, Yao Yilin, Hu Qiaomu, and Deng Liqun. Peng Zhen, the "grinning tiger," on the other hand, comes off rather well (as he does in the Tiananmen Papers, lobbying for the moderate reformer Wan Li to replace Zhao as party chief), as does Hu Qili, who was tossed overboard along with Zhao in May 1989.Readers will want to know what Zhao, reflecting in his long political exile, ultimately thought of Deng Xiaoping, father of China's modern economy. Zhao provides a balanced appraisal of Deng, filled with gratitude at the opportunities Deng extended to him and at the same time pointing out problems of Deng's making, underscoring the fact that Deng was an economic liberal who wanted to unleash market forces in China but was NEVER a political reformer; instead, Deng was the driving force behind a host of "anti-liberal" campaigns that Chinese and Western analysts alike had attributed primarily to Chen Yun, Hu Qiaomu, and Deng Liqun and that created problems and contradictions within the reform movement. Zhao also provides a balanced, sympathetic account of his predecessor as party general secretary, Hu Yaobang, whose great-hearted impetuousness sped him to an early political demise, primarily, in Zhao's estimation, because Hu failed to take Deng's political conservatism and absolute deference to the Communist Party's political primacy more seriously and immediately.Specialists will find this book thoroughly engrossing and the voice absolutely authentic. I'm astonished, however, that Simon and Schuster didn't see fit to help specialists and generalists out by including an index. The book does have a very useful 15 pp dramatis personae for which many, like readers of Russian novels, will be grateful. As Zhao's apology, this is a good one, and Zhao gives himself a good deal of credit for China's early advances in economic reform. He should: he was literally at the center of the storm during the seminal years of transformation and held the field against determined political foes. Many of his ideas, bloodied and battered, have been realized or remain in play, continuing to shape the debate particularly about political reform. One hopes that some day Chinese citizens will be able to freely acknowledge their debt to this their great countryman and mention him in the same breath as Deng Xiaoping, whose close colleague, idea man, sounding board, and implementing agent he was for the foundational decade.

The writing is very good although overly descriptive in places; the plot-driven storyline is satisfyingly complex; the primary and secondary characters well-drawn.That said, at times the action—especially toward the end—swerved into realms of the fantastic, and the protagonist became a superhero. I’m thinking a combination of Bond, Bourne and maybe John Wick. The author is following in the footsteps of Ludlum, Trevanian, Lustbader & Clancy, so I’m guessing that superhuman protagonists are de rigueur for this genre.I was of two minds about rating this book. It wasn’t a 3 Stars book but really 3.5. Since I enjoyed reading most (>3/4) of this book, it’s 4 Stars.

Can I get refund. Wasn’t good. If you’re into Bukowski and Michael Faudet, you won’t like this. It’s written for minors.

I was so excited to get my hands on the book yesterday and I spent the afternoon reading every line. I look forward to re-reading, softening the pages, and wearing the spine out for many days to come.Some complained about the poetry styles. I appreciate the modern, unstructured, non-traditional poetry written by the younger poets now. Words don't have to be cumbersome, lengthy, and overly complicated to be beautiful and meaningful. I have throughly enjoyed the messages without the hard traditional lines and lengths.Truly, the words on their own are impactful. However, the deliberate choices of fonts and images truely represent the tone of every indevidual poem.Thank you for writing this.

Some make me smile, some make me sad, and many feel precisely like what lies hidden inside but am too hesitant to voice. They make me feel and they make me think. Much of his work comprises of very short and simple love poems, but whether he fills an entire page or chooses only a pinch of words, there is a depth behind each thought. It’s difficult to review poetry since it is a poet’s truth and a particularly subjective medium, so all I can say is that I adore this collection and hope you might too.

This is the most beautiful book I own. I have an addiction to reading Atticus poetry on Instagram and now have these wonderful stories in the palm of my hands. Every page of this book is beautiful and makes me so excited to turn the page. This will be my favorite new gift to give to loved ones. Don't pass this book up I promise you will be pleased.

I normally wouldn’t waste my time returning something so cheap. However, because this “book” of “poems” is so incredibly terrible and I honestly don’t want someone to ever pick it up off of my bookshelf thinking it’s worthy of sitting besides works of real authors, I am. I wrote better poetry when I was 10 and had my first big crush one someone. I mean, I might have somewhat enjoyed it then, but I don’t see how anyone else could possibly call this anything but a waste of time & paper. I got through the first 150 pages in about 15 minutes and couldn’t even bring myself to get through the rest of this garbage. Idk if I had a glass of wine too many while reading the reviews or what tf happened but I somehow missed the only accurate ones- the ones that says it’s AWFUL. if I could give this zero stars I would.

Thought this would be good with all the hype online. My expectations were high and I was let down.

Atticus somehow captures an infinite amount of emotions in very few words. His poems are feelings I had in my heart but could never express. This book is full of warm fuzzies, heartbreaking passion, and endless love. It shows me how I want and deserve to be loved. This book could be read all in once or throughout time like his instagram posts and still have the same impact. I recommend this over and over to anyone that has loved, or been loved.

Beautiful pages for beautiful words. I love the construction and the originality of the illustrative element. The burst of poetry back into popular culture, often through social media, has been such an exciting development and Atticus brings a unique and eternally moving addition to that movement. Following his writing on instagram has been a pleasure and seeing those words put onto beautiful pages is so exciting. I've only begun to explore this work but I can already tell it is one I am going to cherish.

About the Author

Travis Ford is currently serving as a district chief on shift at Station 9, known as “The Bottoms,” with the Nashville Fire Department in the busiest district and at the busiest house in the city with 39 stations. Station 9 finished fifth on the list of busiest firehouses in Firehouse Magazine in 2014. He has ascended the ranks over his 30-year career in Nashville. He has been responsible for developing and presenting programs in leadership for company and chief officer training and high-rise operations around the country, and served as vice-chair of the high-rise committee for the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA). Mr. Ford has also served as the vice-chair of the National Fire Science Associate’s Degree Program Committee and is currently serving on the High School to College Pathways Committee as part of the Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education professional development committee in the development of model fire science course curriculum.   Mr. Ford is the director of the Fire Science Technology Program at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, Tennessee. In addition, he serves as an adjunct instructor for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s National Emergency Training Center in several areas, including the National Incident Management System, Incident Command for High-Rise Operations, and Fire Protection Systems for Emergency Operations. Mr. Ford holds an associate’s degree in Fire Science from Tennessee State University, a bachelor’s degree in Fire Administration from the University of Memphis, and a master’s of science degree in Human Resource Development from the University of Tennessee. He has also completed the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy.

While the subject matter is both pertinent and important, the authors long winded and disorganized method of presenting the information makes for a terrible textbook. Single sentences drone on and on instead of presenting clear, concise and succinct ideas and information. For instance, many sentences introduce multiple new terms, define them in the middle of the sentence while using them in a concept or idea. Define, then use terms! The author also likes to bounce from idea to idea from one sentence to the next instead of keeping on subject. He does not Stay on the subject of the subheading but bounces from idea to idea. Over all, the book, especially the first few chapters could be condensed considerably and it would be significantly clearer and quicker to study. Also, the pictures have little to no value as examples or learning material.
