I bought this book due to my love and involvement in local living history. This book is extremely informative, and accurate. It is geared toward the beginning history buff, or traveling explorer. It outlines the perilous struggle between the British, and the French for control of North America. Most specifically the Forbes Trail which was hacked out of the "Wild frontier" that was Pennsylvania in 1758. Engineered just three years after the disasterous Braddock expedition, General John Forbes along with his newly arrived 1st Battalion of rugged Highland Scots spearheaded a route through the Ohio Country to capture Fort Duqesne (Pittsburgh). Along the way leaving a wake of forts, outposts, and settlements that would shape the very heritage of Pennsylvania, and history of our nation. Old bed and breakfasts, vacation spots, historical sites, outdoor recreation areas, and annual festivals are just some of the things brought about by the daring endeavor. This book parallels history with modern day recreation, geography, and heritage. It is highly recommended for all history buffs. A cute little story - that can be read by a child....there was laughter in my 6-year old grandaughter's voice as she read it aloud....Just enough light humor about a situation that affects school-age children....of any species!! I put it on my Kindle because it's the kind of story that's fun to have with you, and be able to read PRN.....

The story reminds me of "Good Night Moon" (another favorite picture book). Both books include a tiny, incidental character who bounces across the pages for the child to follow. The illustrations here are in softened, but not pastel, colors and are realistic. I sent a physical copy of "Kitty Cat, Kitty Cat, Are You Waking Up?" to my 1-year-old grandnephew.

Kitty Cat is a cute rhyming story about a young kitten getting distracted when she is supposed to be getting ready for school and a mother's gentle reminders to keep on task.

I have this book four stars because while the book w as s cute it seemed very short. I wish it had been longer. It is a good length for a very young child who has a short attention span but seemed to be over too fast for my child. Lovely pictures however so it was worth the money. If it were in print I'd think it would sell for ten dollars because of the illustration.

Perfect for your very own little kitty cat. My 3 almost 4 year old daughter related to kitty and loves for me to sing the story to the tune of "Mommy Finger Daddy Finger."

We love Bill Martin books and my niece (4) also loves kitty cats, so this book couldn't be more suitable! She loves it as do I, because I love how his books teach kids to read through repetition. Adding this to our favorite books bin!

A wonderful book... given to me at a time in my life where I was under great stress and in the middle of an unexpected health crisis that almost cost me my life.... a guide to help you understand what it means to truly repent ...to truly accept Jesus as your Savior and Lord... to truly sacrifice your ego and its needs and instead to make Jesus Christ and the study of the Word as your primary focus in life and thereby allowing the Holy Spirit to work his magic within you. That is the meaning of being Born Again. Sacrifice and Repentance can lead to a dramatic change in your life....it changes the way you think, it changes the way you react to circumstances in a way that will at times surprise you...and your friends...people will notice how different and how happy you are and you will have a feeling of Joy and Peace that stays with you. I am just getting started but I can't recommend a better book to anyone to take that first step....God Bless and enjoy a great read from the master!

ONE BOOKAbout fifteen years ago I read "Holy Spirit" upon the recommendation of a classmate, this was the most revealing and enlightening book I had every read and it open the door into my faith, simply and excitingly revealing the personality and power of one Christ described as "The Comforter".I loaned the book to a classmate, ending up giving him the book when he told me he wanted to share with his very special girlfriend.The book was so revealing, exciting, and inspiring I wanted to read it again and share it so I purchased another copy. This time it was even more wonderful. It's revaluations are simple, very strait forward and explained. I had trouble putting it down. Read it, and you will see why I say it will open your eyes, Believe me.

Arrived on November first, well packaged, such an excellent book. I have the audio book, but this book has such wonderful treasures in it, and having it in hand to read is a blessing. Billy Graham provides such exciting insights and experiences you won't want to miss weaving them into your life experiences here on earth.

This book gave me a much better understanding of how the Holy Spirit works. I would recommend to anyone who follows Jesus. I shared this with another member of my Bible Study Group. He enjoyed it so much that he bought copies for all 70 members of our class. I purchased enough to share with my prayer group.

Eventhough Billy Graham wrote this in the early 70's. It is very relevant today. It's mind blowing how important the third person of the Trinty is. And He is just as important and involved in all things from creation through today as God and Jesus are. We all need to read this book.

As usual, Billy Graham's writings are point on and easy to understand. He is trustworthy and backs his teachings with scripture. I don't trust every author out there. It's an important subject to me. I have many of his books.

Along the way, Dr. Solymar proves time and time again that he has not mastered many of the chemistry and physics topics that he attempts to explain. The uncertainty relation is proved via an arbitrarily chosen width for a wave packet without mention of the correct way to derive this relationship (found in any number of quantum mechanics books), and the final uncertainty relationship is stated incorrectly. Bragg's relationship is stated wrong. I guess he does not care to differentiate between greater than or equal to and greater than; nor between h and hbar (nor between the inclusion or exclusion of a factor of 2). However, for an introductory text, I would see it appropriate to get the equations and proof-approaches as correct as possible. If ugly algebra is what he is trying to avoid in this introductory text, he should at least provide the correct setups for each derivation, provide the relevant results, and guide the reader to alternative texts for a full-on mathematical work-up. Instead, what Dr. Solymar resorts to are cute, but useless stories, and arbitrary or unconventional approaches to 'prove' equations (usually not proofs at all, but a sequence of equalities showing that one result is consistent with another).You wouldn't use arithmetic rules and algebraic laws learned in secondary school to prove the more basic set theory (which can be derived from a basic set of axioms); nor would you use Pauli's exclusions principle to prove the form of a multi-particle wave equation for identical/indistinguishable particles. Yet Dr. Solymar does exactly this: 'prove' things in the wrong direction, or start at a certain arbitrary result (without making explicit the assumptions), using this random starting point to 'prove' a very critical result.Clear logic flow in this book is very much lacking. The book is however, rich in useless anthropomorphic analogies such as:"Perhaps melodrama would be the right category [to characterize the Quantum Confined Stark Effect] considering the touching affection between electrons and holes. If we consider, however, how they stave off brutal intervention by the electric field with their backs against the potential wall, and how quickly all these things happen, then melodrama might give way to a thriller."Bad does not begin to explain this book. Overall, it is not impossible nor difficult to learn from this book. However, your understanding of how to interface your mathematical toolset to physical problems will have serious holes and flaws if you follow this book too closely. If you want a firm grounding in electronic materials, take a look at Simon M. Sze's books. You might also want to consider Charles Kittel's introductory text in solid state physics (much more mathematically involved than Solymar however). Finally, I could also recommend Banerjee (Solid State Devices), which is also sometimes verbose. However, in the case of Banerjee, the verbosity is always in an effort to describe the nuances of the subject rather than as in the case of Solymar, the verbosity is usually an attempt to make a fairytale masterpiece out of a technical subject.If you still have doubts about the quality of this book, please re-read the unedited quote I have taken out of the book above. If you want personified charge carriers, and violent electric fields, this book is perfect for you. This book is filled with enchanted and animated particles and forces and perilous land analogies you might expect in a fantasy book. I think for most, these ludicrous attempts at humor get old really fast and impede the reader's ability to get to the core of the concept.

I read this book for the first time in the university book store when shopping for a class. I ended up not taking the class, but the style was so accessible that I got a copy of the text anyway.It isn't a rigorous text as noted by another reviewer, however that reviewer I believe missed the point of the text completely. Somewhere I recall the audience was suggested to be 2nd year college student. Electrical Engineers rarely have had quantum mechanics by that point, if they take it at all. A course our of Kittel, Ashcroft and Mermin or similar would be needed first to truly be rigorous. The class that covers many of the topics in this book is a 400 level class at Cornell, one that assumes both solid state, and quantum as previous courses. Clearly no book that starts with what an electron is will get to how a superconductor in so few pages, in a rigorous manner.No the point of this text is to introduce some rules and wave ones hands a bit to see why they should be true. While a greater number of rules and postulates may be less satisfying to some, it can be ever bit as useful if you can remember them all.Solymar and Walsh do this. Not flawlessly, but in a text that is readable. Readability is important. This book is readable in the sense that Feynman's books are. The book is good for someone in another field or as a basic intro, as long as you understand you are getting a sketch. Sketches are useful, this book is also. Recommended.

This work demonstrates that scientists are people too! Solymar and Walsh offer a survey of a difficult subject in a manner that is easy to follow, and sometimes funny. The quantum mechanics of electronics are explained in sufficient depth to be useful, but not overdone enough to be boring. I especially loved the section on superconductivity! The book offer may not be the most in-depth on individual subjects, but it presents each subject in a clear, understandable way. Wonderful for the student.

JSTL provides a set of common tag libraries for JSP programmers. This book explains the JSTL and it does it extremely well. In about 200 pages, the book covers what the JSTL is, what to use it for, how to use it, and gives plenty of examples.The start of the book covers the basics of tag libraries and explains why we need JSTL. Next, the basics of JSTL and the expression language are covered. The one small flaw in the book is that the expression language could have been covered in a bit more detail. The rest of the book covers each of the tags (actions) broken up into the separate libraries. The core, XML, internationalization and formatting, and SQL actions are each given their own chapters. The author doesn't just cover the tags but also provides enough background information to insure that you can understand how the tags are used. For example, in the XML chapter, the author starts by explaining the different technologies around XML and then shows how the XML actions can be used to simplify the task of using XML in your JSPs. The SQL chapter explains why you would never want to use the SQL actions before she discusses the actions themselves. The book ends with a "quick reference" section.Sue Spielman has a very easy writing style that makes reading her books a pleasure. Her book is short and complete, a very difficult combination to pull off.

This might be one of the most effective IT book I have ever read. It's short but comprehensive. All four libraries are covered and covered quite well.The first few chapters provide an introduction to JSTL, including the reasons and a few brief examples. The chapter on the EL seemed to be the weakest chapter, but it was detailed enough to get a solid start with using it.Each library has a pretty good sized chapter with coverage of all of the tags and their most common attributes. The code samples covered what you are most likely to do with the tags, although I would have like to see some uncommon uses as well. The chapter on the SQL tags, the most controversial library, included her opinions on why you would use them.Overall, this book provides a quick source of information for learning JSTL. It will also make a great reference to have when you are writing your JSP pages.
