I've been teaching dance for about 15 years, and felt like I was in a rut. So I purchased this book for some creative ideas to reinvigorate my teaching. The book is very comprehensive, with excellent descriptions for moves and running classes. It offers many different lesson plans, and they are easy to tailor to my individual needs. The combinations provided are also fantastic, and I love some of the game suggestions. I'm so glad I purchased this book!

Great resource for teachers. I wish it wasn't all in combo classes (ballet/tap/tumbling) as I teach straight ballet, but still a nice guide for ideas. It is very elementary which is what I needed as I usually teach older dancers and was having a hard time structuring a class for ages 4-7.

I haven't had a chance to read through the whole book, but it has great ideas that I plan to work into my movement class that I teach for 3yr olds. I appreciate the choreography for monthly dances/dance combinations given as well.

Has a few ideas that would be alright for my classes... designed for kids classes that are one hour long and include ballet, tap and tumbling packed into one. Not a good buy for my classical ballet kiddos. Would be alright for studios that teach multiple styles.

If you want to get into med school this book is for you! Dr. Ryan Gray is very knowledgeable with his experience with helping students matriculate. He offers great advice and samples of personal statements that are great, and others that are not-so-great, with his personal feedback on how to improve. This is a great place to start if you don't know what to write about, or a great read to try and better the statement you have now.

I like how detailed this book is. Dr. Gray did a great job specifying concepts I would have never thought about while writing my PS. There’s also multiple examples of personals statements at different times in the process. Highly recommend.

Honestly this book was an incredible read. I had attended various personal statement meetings with my pre-med program and have looked at other resources before coming across this book. Needless to say I wasted a lot of time with those other sources because Dr. Gray's book had a lot more useful tips, tricks, and advice for writing MY best personal statement. He helped me see how I needed to SHOW adcoms rather than tell adcoms in my personal statement. Honestly a tremendous value you for what you get. If you are struggling with your personal statement or even if you think you have a solid statement, I encourage you to buy this because it will honestly help you have the best personal statement possible.

As a pre-health professions advisor who is not a physician, I rely on outside sources, people, books, podcasts, etc. to learn how to best help my students. Great book with practical advice. Writing style is easy to follow and not unnecessarily flowery.

I got this book as a gift when I started my master program. I did not know where to start writing about myself, let alone how to appeal the medical school admission. I wrote my personal statement before using a lot of different sources, including Dr. Gray's podcast (side note: if you didn't listen to his podcast, DO IT. They are so so helpful) and having the books helped me to have a strong finish. The book hits all of the significant points that ADCOM is looking for and offers a lot of advice/examples/feedback for each one. My mentor was impressed with my new personal statement during our last meeting. He was so surprised that I improved a lot within a short time. Personally, I am thankful that the book gives me some directions to start and boost my confidence when writing my PS. If you need a help with your PS, esp. if you are pre-med, get the book. Trust me, it's great investment just like those AAMC practice tests :D

Her life was a series of mistakes and misadventures that ended with her dying handcuffed to her hospital bed, dying of alcoholism complicated by drug addiction before she was 50.Holiday's life on the stage was for the most part where she achieved transcendence. Despite being a bit of a handful, she worked with Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Count Basie, some of the best names in the business at the height of the jazz era. Her romantic life was dreadful, tinged with masochistic entanglements and heavily fused by substance abuse, with heroin proving to be her downfall.Billie's horrible wonderful life is ably chronicled in this book, which has to be one of the best biographies ever written. Donald Clark weaves a series of interviews into a fascinating mosaic of an incomparable artist with an intemperate life.

I don't think words can truly express how much I loved this book. This is her story, the good, the bad and even the ugly. Like all great artists, she was a complex character, full of contradictions, yet extremely gifted and one of the best vocalists we will ever have known. This isn't an easy read in some parts, but biographies are meant to be honest no matter how tragic they are. If you want to know more about her life and the climate of the jazz music industry during that time period in American history, this is a great read. Highly recommended.

Great book and love the pacing of it. So sad to see such an awesome talent and unique voice fall from grace from drug abuse and a broken upbringing.Lady Day will always be looked at as a tragic figure, but viewed with an awesome voice and great stage presence of her time.

Just not feeling the story. It's dry and easy to put down. Missing details and is more a whose who. Quality of writing is more reporting than telling her story.

Great book full of interesting info. It is a bit long winded so I pick it up every week or so. Reading it straight through would be a little tiresome.

Read this book and you'll know about everything one needs to know about this fascinating though tragically damaged woman. Her childhood was broken, which basically led her to become what she became as a person. Billie was brilliant as a vocalist, beautiful when she allowed herself to be, and was manipulated, brutalized, and dependent. At the same time. she produced some of the most incredible and moving vocals in the jazz idiom. Clarke does a fine job sourcing original material. However, his writing, which involves quotes from multiple sources, frequently leaves one in the dark as to who exactly he's quoting, which becomes a bit frustrating over time. However, if you want to know all there is to know about this tragic piece of art named Billie Holiday, read this book and cope with its problems.
