Anne of Green Gables is a wonderful classic story and it gets 5 stars. This particular printing, however, is completely unacceptable. It's as if someone typed it into a document, and printed it off--no page numbers, not titled at the top of each page, the lines don't even break properly (see photo). Purchased as a gift, thankfully with enough time to purchase a better quality copy--probably for less money! A disgrace to the publishing community.

I LOVED Anne of Green Gables as a child and own the complete hard copy of the Anne series. Initially, I was delighted to find this collection of books written by one of my all time favorite authors for only $0.99 (kindle price. What a steal!) and felt I had to get the digital copy for my kindle at once. As soon as the product was delivered to my device, I began to read it since it's been years since I've visited the darling world that L.M Montgomery created.I was very surprised to find that I kept tripping on certain sentences; the writing didn't seem as smooth as I remembered. When I got to chapter 6, I decided to compare a sentence in the digital print to my old, yellowing physical copy of Anne of Green Gables book. I realized why I had some difficulty reading my new digital copy: THERE ARE TYPOS IN THIS PRODUCT.It contains the WORST kinds of typos. There are typos in which it results in sentences that don't make sense. There are typos with the wrong pronouns in them that make it confusing for the reader to understand which character the publisher meant to write about. I am able to follow the story because I've read Anne of Green Gables more than once with my hard copy but for new readers, these typos will make this beautiful story difficult to read and at times, understand.I hope the digital copy can be fixed so that owners can enjoy L.M. Montgomery's work as it was meant to be enjoyed. I have given this two stars instead of one because of the fabulous price for kindle readers.

BUYER BEWARE! The version published by "CreateSpace" is slapdash print-on-demand garbage. I hoped an illustrated version would be good for a child, but I returned it on first inspection. Nowhere could I find evidence of thought or effort in layout to justify any price. Illustrations are small, extremely infrequent, and essentially worthless. Some shameless soul has simply taken LM Montgomery's text, which, as it is in the public domain, is freely available to anyone, and tried to make money selling it. Interested readers would be advised to download a free ebook or pay for a handsomer edition, such as the Puffin In Bloom version. We went with the Puffin in Bloom version and are much more satisfied.

This is a great book, but buying this edition which Marco Pedulla purports to have translated constitutes buying stolen property.The book was written in Englilsh, so Pedulla has translated nothing. What he has done has taken material free in the public domain and offered it on Amazon.Amazon should NOT support theft.

The illustrations are actually random pictures that are creepy since they are in the beginning when Anne meets Mathew Cuthbert so they insinuate a romance between them. And the free audiobook is click bait to set you up to download an app and give your email address to spammers. Screen shots of the "illustrations" below.

This review is of the kindle version of Anne: The Green Gables Complete Collection and does not reflect on the L.M. Montgomery text. The Anne books have always been favorites of mine. Buy the book, but get another edition! First issue: Really random pics grabbed from some art history textbook do not qualify as illustrations. They are more distracting than I would have imagined. Why didn't they leave the totally unrelated images out? Second issue: This is some new definition of complete that I am unacquainted with. This is Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea only. None of the later books are included. False advertising. A text I am being pulled out of by unnecessary distractions. There have to be better options. I am going in search of one.

DK Readers: Pirates: Raiders of the High Seas (Level 4: Proficient Readers)It is hard to find the right books for young children when it comes to Pirates, Robin Hood etc. In reality there was violence and criminal behavior, and yet both are filled with excitement that even grownups enjoy. What I would like is a book that gives us some of the romance and excitement with just a touch of reality. If that is what you want too, this may not be the book for you.This book has chapters on different real life pirates like Kidd and Blackbeard. One chapter is about Julius Caesar who was kidnapped (I never knew that). Most chapters are written in first person from either the pirate's or victim's point of view. They kind of ramble on "I did this and then I did that" blah blah. Some discussions that I could live without are about hanging punishments, torturing anyone who doesn't hand over their money, cat o' nine tails whipping. In one section it says a pirate was captured and tried without a lawyer then hanged and the body was left for people to look at. UGH that is way too much information for a child. What were they thinking? Also there is too much political intrigue that is boring. Sure they are trying to be realistic and factual, but come on.There is no excitement or romance in this book on pirates. I really don't care for it. We read lots and lots of DK readers. Most of them are interesting and well written. A few of the level 4 readers have too much information that doesn't directly pertain to the subject. I understand they are trying to increase the information for older children. We read the books to our 4 year old. He is intelligent and loves to learn. He is captivated by pirates and Robin hood and I just can't find the right books for him on these subjects.Maybe DK could make a junior version of pirates at level 2 or 3 and leave out the details of violence. Focus more on what it would be like to live on the high seas and look for treasure ships to capture. Then where to hide that treasure, and why did they hide it anyway? Why did they turn to pirating? A brief bit about actual real life pirates would be ok.

Small book but an easy read for my son.

Once again, Dorling Kindersley swabs the decks of other publishing houses with its high quality production, style, and storehouse of sidebars, illustrations, and tidbits of information. This book is recommended for children in grades 2-4, although they caution that these are rough guidelines.After a brief introduction, there are fictional first-person narratives of adventures with famous pirates from many places and eras, including a slave of Julius Caesar, both of whom are captured by pirates (and eventually freed); Henry "Long Ben" Avery, a British pirate of the late 17th century, Henry Morgan's pillaging, looting, and torture in Jamaica, the exploits of Captain Kidd and Blackbeard.Along with illustrations of such pirate essentials as guns and swords, ships and navigational instruments, food and flags, there is a drawing of a gallows and a man hanging from one, a man placed on the torture instrument, "the rack," several pictures illustrating a hangman's noose, a hanging body and a severed head tied to a ship. These pictures are not graphic or detailed, but they may be frightening to some children. 48 pages, with a brief glossary, and lots of pictures. The historical angle would have been more complete if an afterward had been written to explain the demise of the piracy.

This is a must for your young pirate lover. It provides a biography of the most infamous pirates from an unusual perspective. Learn about Roman Pirates from the eyes of Julius Ceasear's slave. Read about Blackbeard from the man who killed him. Hear the story of crazy Captain Morgan from one of his first mates. Our kids (8, 6, and 4) loved the entertaining and informative tales. This was a great springboard into our homeschool pirate study. It left the kids curious and motivated to further research specific pirate biographies. The info in the margins added details about the pirate world. It is a fantastic biographical resource but I wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for an overview about pirate life in general.

I purchased this book for my 8 year old who is in 2nd grade. I am greatly dismayed with the violent content in this book that is described as appropriate for ages 8-10. I understand that the lives/habits/adventures of pirates were not glamorous and they were very violent but to mention murder on every other page, hangings and even a beheading is way, way too much for this age group! What were they thinking?! Most of the information in the book is very interesting but I will definitely screen any DK readers I purchase in the future. I don't really trust their discretion!

I bought this book for my son to practice his reading. He now reads it to me at least once a week. We have other DK Readers books and they are great for helping your child to read on subjects that interest them.

Engaging story for young boys. The pirate language was sometimes hard to read but otherwise the book was fine.

The first thing I noticed when I opened the book was all of the photography was in black and white. This made me wish that I have waited for the reviews to decide to buy the book, even though I got a discount for pre-ordering. I was expecting a more Kinfolk aesthetic with neutral-colored photography. Besides that, the writing language is okay as okay can be. I'm having a hard time just reading through each figure's stories with a lack of depth to their personality and images of their work.

I was hoping that the bright red was a book cover, so I could remove it, but it isn’t. I was going to have this as a cofffee table book but my living room palette is neutral, and your eye draws directly to it when entering. The overall quality of the book isn’t that great, and all the photography is black and white, so reading it is a bit of a bore—I lost interest quickly. If you’re into aesthetics and visuals, pass on this one.

It is a Passover Seder that author John Pointier has fell in love with while spending 2 1/2 years in Israel, and now celebrates it with family and many different church groups.This is an excellent resource to educate you on what each element represents while helping you gain a deeper love for the price that was paid on your behalf and the goodness and mercy of God extended. You will be walked through the step by step process that the Lord celebrated in the upper room the night He was betrayed. Each of the 4 cups of wine within the meal will represent sanctification, plagues, redemption, and praise.I do not want to give away each detail except to say that this is an excellent resource to continually refer to as I know many will want to incorporate this meal on a regular yearly basis. To aid in the completion of the ceremony, at the end of the book there is a checklist with recipes to help one prepare the evening Seder. Too is a description of what each table should comprise of as a set-up especially if many are to partake of this.As many actively participate in this meal and pass this along to new generations the Exodus story will capture heart-felt anointed revelation unsurpassed. I give this book a 5 star rating and highly recommend it for every family and church library.

I attended a Seder just a few days after downloading and reading this little book about understanding and participating in a Christian Seder. The book is very Christ centered yet explained the meanings ofeach part of the traditional Passover rituals from both a traditional and Messianic viewpoint.I liked being able to participate in the readings and responses. To taste the bitter and sweet, to know about the stripes and piercings of the Matzo and to better understand GOD's purposes; and tracing the Messiah through the scriptures. I found this little book easy to read and understand and I highly recommend this book to churches and families wishing to understand the Feast of Passover from the Bible.

I have attended Passover Seders in the past, and I thought I understood them. I realized after reading this book that I had not gotten the full impact of the Passover Seder. I found myself tearing up several times as I read this book, and began to gain a better understanding of how the Seder foretold of how Jesus would redeem his people. More specifically how he would redeem me.This is a great resource to be able to prepare and host a Seder. It is easy to follow, explains the parts of the Seder, and has recipes. I was pleased with the pictures as they enhanced the book visually and were helpful in gaining a better understanding of the Seder. This is a great book.

I was part of preparing and hosting a seder meal and found this book to be a helpful resource. It's written well, from a Christian perspective, and we could have used this book exclusively had we chosen to do so. The only critique I have, and it's a mild one, is that it's a bit too Christian for my taste. This is a meal that commemorates and celebrates God's saving power as revealed in the First Covenant and I feel this deserves the utmost reverence. Nevertheless, if you've never experienced a seder meal and want to prepare such an experience, I recommend this resource. There are recipes in the back that could be helpful. Also the little dictionary of seder meal language alone is worth getting this book.

"The Best Value Colleges - 200 Colleges With Exceptional ROI For Your Tuition Investment - 2019 Edition" (2019 publication; 472 pages) is from the same publisher (The Princeton Review) which brings a number of other college-search books, including last year's excellent "The Best 384 Colleges" (beware, that number changes yearly). So why the need for this book? Two things that I can surmise: (1) the "Best Colleges" book, which originally started out at 250 all those years ago, is creeping towards 400 now, and in need of a trim, frankly; and (2) given the cost of attending college, it has become more paramount than ever for colleges to demonstrate that going there is a good "bang-for-the-buck" or "return on investment".The book opens with a number of handy lists bringing us "Great Schools for the Highest Paying Majors" (looks like any kind of engineering major is the way to go, but in particular Petroleum Engineering, with its eye-popping median starting salary of $94,000). Other fun lists include the Top 50 Best Value Colleges (Cal Tech is ranked no. 1; Stanford, which was No. 1 last year, dropped to no. 2), Best Schools for Internships (Bentley is ranked no. 1-- the 2018 top-ranked school, Northeastern, dropped to No. 6), etc. After that we get the School Profiles, and if you are familiar with the "Best Colleges" book, it will immediately look very familiar. Each school gets 2 pages, divided into several charts, data and subject matters. I carefully looked at the entries of a couple of schools that appear in both the "Best Colleges" and this new book, and what I found was that the popular "Survey Says" segment from the "Best Colleges" book is gone, but instead we get the all-important "Career Information from Payscale.com", where the editors post the ROE ("Return on Investment"), based on such factors as median starting salary, median mid-career salary, % alumni who recommend school, % alumni with high job meaning and satisfaction, etc. I cannot independently verify to what degree these ratings are real or bogus, but based on the high reputation of The Princeton Review, I'll go with it unless someone demonstrates these ratings are bogus. I am most familiar with colleges in Ohio (where I live and my oldest went to college) and DC (where I and my youngest went), and it's hard to argue with the colleges that made the cut (such as Miami University, with an ROE of 87, same as in 2018, and Georgetown, with an ROE of 89, down from 90 in 2018, just to name those). George Washington, where I went, was on the "Best Value Colleges" list until a few years ago but has dropped off, so yes these rankings do change from year to year. I am impressed with the fact that the tuition and the room & board numbers have been updated again from the "Best 384 Colleges", which came out last August. I look at these numbers, and just shake my head in disbelief (Georgetown now costs $69,792/yr... say what?).Bottom line: I find this to be a worthwhile addition in the Princeton Review catalog of college-search books, and it works in particularly well in combination with the "Best 384 Colleges" book. As a further aside, the Princeton Review also has another worthwhile book called "Colleges That Create Futures - 2017 Edition", narrowing the field down even further to just 50 colleges, and with thoughts and suggestions that challenge traditional wisdom and thinking big time. "Best Value Colleges - 2019 Edition" is certainly not the first book that anyone new to the college-search process will want to consult, but once you have narrowed your list of top target colleges, and assuming they make the cut of these 200 best value colleges as profiled here, this will be essential reading. "Best Value Colleges" is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
