What a terrific conclusion to a very enjoyable trilogy! If you have read the first two books, you already know the quality of Sanderson's writing and this book is no exception. Sanderson not only more completely fleshes out some aspects of the first two magic systems he created for this world, but also casually drops in a third system which you realize has been present all along.The story picks up two years after in last book and the characters have undergone some changes though at heart they are obviously the same. Some characters, like Spook, gain in importance and personality and, as May be expected, others are dealing with their emotional reactions to the trials they have been through to this point. This may be Sanderson's greatest strength as story-teller... his characters actually CARE that they are going through unusual circumstances and it actually affects their personalities and emotions. There is no blithely murdering tens or hundreds of individuals and grabbing a beer to wash down the blood.

Wow. I won't spoil the book for anyone but the ending surprised me. The ending is sad and lovely, dark and hopeful. Because most readers will have read the first two books, I won't give a general synopsis. Sanderson does a masterful job building his world. He deepens the personality of some characters and expands the role of others. Excellent book.Someone mentioned thinking Sazed's spiritual crisis made the character seem a bit whiny. I don't share that opinion. I loved the depiction of doubt. As someone who struggled with both faith and nonfaith, I appreciated much of Sazed's thought process toward religion. I loved the Terrisman but maybe I am biased because of my own love/hate toward religion.

In this book the pleasure lies not so much in politics as in the previous book, but in the evolution of the world and its races, and the explanation of how these creatures emerged.Unlike Starwars, for example, in which we have the fiasco of Midclorians, Sanderson delightfully and plausibly explains how the races were created, their purpose and the very evolution of the character of the Lord Ruler, his thoughts when building the world in that form. What is weird at the beginning, starts to make sense, and we begin to feel empathy even to the most terrible characters.My step behind is perhaps to the character Sazed , which has many dull conversations to himself that tend to a tiresome self-pity, but is part of the evolution of the character. One cannot love everyone. It is a feature that I hate on characters, but it is a personality trait that exists and needs to be described.Great book. Five stars. Brandon Sanderson has created a world, and characters to fill it, that are so vivid they almost seem more real than the real world. The way he unfolds the mysteries that started at the very beginning of the trilogy is astounding and gripping. I came away from the closing chapter feeling fulfilled, hopeful, and inspired. Even though it was fiction, I feel more complete having read the Mistborn trilogy and look forward to delving into his next Mistborn novel.

All 3 books in this trilogy are very good. I was introduced to Brandon Sanderson from the work he did finishing off Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. Anyway, after reading the first book in this trilogy I thought... not bad, but not as good as his work in WOT. By then end of the third book I was really impressed and he showed the depth that he showed in finishing Jordan's story. Highly recommended.

This was an amazing trilogy. Each book was it's own piece, yet each book built upon the one before it. We learned more about the characters and the world around them. There were unexpected revelations. The characters grew and changed and went through experiences both wonderful and horrible. Not to mention the worldbuilding is amazing and the powers these characters wield and the battles they fight make great visualizations in your head that would make for a great movie series. I highly recommend.

Given Michele's extensive scholarship and projects focused solely on changes within the legal profession I assumed as a law student, it would be difficult to relate with some of the more difficult concepts in the book. I found out quickly this assumption was absolutely false!!! In Legal Upheaval, Michele is guiding you through an intimate, digestible, and transformative journey. Her aim is to teach people of all skill levels to effectively relate, grow, and develop tangible skills within a few hours that would without her guidance and diligence take months or years to learn and master. I could not envision a more effective way to stay informed with some of the latest trends in the law and simultaneously empower and guide you into implementing your newly learned skills like a seasoned professional.

The author uses a wealth of examples and stories to illustrate ways in which legal organizations can effect innovation and change. While it's an easy read, there are exercises and sections in which to stop and reflect on what the material means. This book did not contain the information I was wanting or expecting--and it could have made its case in less than a third of its size.The reality is that it does nothing other than offer a few sentences about what each part of the grant proposal should contain, followed by dozens and dozens of examples of how certain companies phrased that section, all of which are almost entirely identical. If the author had merely given 2-3 examples per section, it would have been overly sufficient.Here are the biggest problems:1. While the writing examples the author gives are beyond numerous, these are extremely limited in their scope. (These all say almost exactly the same thing and are all limited to a couple kinds of business entities.)2. The author seems to think we are all either in the medical profession or are educators--and are all coming from businesses which are thoroughly established. If you are an entrepreneur, a professional funding a start-up business, or are in any field related to the arts, this book offers nothing for you. You would be better off finding your help on-line, which is to the point and free. I'm left wondering if this author has the vaguest notion that other types of businesses--and other types of people--also receive grants that are specific to their needs.3. If you are looking for some dynamic phrase or wording that would help your proposal stand out from the crowd, you're out of luck with this book.The result is that this all could have been written in about a dozen pages without losing anything of substance. Considering its size, there is no excuse for the limitations of its scope. It is apparent that the author is using wording for grants coming from the only businesses with which she has any experience. The rest of the world would be hard-pressed to find anything relevant to their own needs.

Bought this book on a whim when hearing about it at a conference and it has been a game changer for our organization and our grants. So few books have really great samples like this you can build off of. And it's laid out so well by every specific section of the grant that it makes it easy to find what you're looking for. Wish there were more great resources like this on the market for grant professionals.

its okay, and certainly if you are at a loss for words you might need this. If you read other grant proposals though, you can pick out phrases to help you along without purchasing this book.

It’s perfectly fine, but I ultimately (thus far, anyway) found it unnecessary. I will however look through it again in the future, and may find it more useful. I don’t regret buying it.

This is a truly a wonderful book! It the author's story about her friendship with Caroline Knapp, author of "Drinking, A Love Story", who tragically died in 2002 from cancer. The book shows how two women from very different backgrounds, become like family over their mutual love of dogs, rowing and writing. They give each other strength, hope, love, laughter, and in the end, a courage that Gail Caldwell still carries with her. I think this book would be a wonderful read for any person who cherishes their female friends, it will also appeal to animal lovers, especially dog lovers. Warning: have a box of Kleenex handy, its not just Caroline's death that will move you to tears. It's the best book I've read in a long time, I couldn't put it down.

I have had several "best friends" in my life. As we have lived and grown and separated by circumstances, there always comes another "best friend". This book describes the love and connection I have felt over the years. Now I am in my senior years and look back at the losses I have experienced....family members, friends, and beloved four legged loved ones. This book puts into words those feelings, and I relived grief...and felt more deeply the losses....it has helped me move on and understand my self and my ability to love....still. Thank you.

This book is so well written.....semi chronological story of two women who connected on so many levels and dealt with common demons (alcoholism). Clearly a friendship that everyone hopes for and some are lucky enough to find. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, but the biggest take away for me was the last few chapters and how Ms Caldwell explains her take on death and loss of someone so special. I had to grab my highlighter and found myself totally immersed in her words.........she explains the unavoidable darkness of grief that we all never can prepare ourselves for until it happens to us. I lost my dear mom almost 19 years ago and her explanation of those days of mourning could not have been more accurate, or better written. There is a quote from a friend in the book that says something like the species has been doing this for a long time and the body just knows what to do. The journey of grief is something we all experience to some degree, but even the worst hurt does eventually fade in intensity, so that is what we all have to get through and realize in our own time. I think she called it getting to sorrow, that she could do sorrow but wasn't ready for the painful process to get there. Such a good writer, i'm so glad I read it, laughed with it, and cried with it at the end. I intend to read her other books, i really enjoyed her storytelling style and the way she brings the words that are hard to explain into real relatable print.

I picked this up on a total whim. No past relationship with the author's works. I literally just wanted a memoir about friendship. Maybe I was feeling sentimental about growing up or something. I have no idea.It was perfect for me. It was a great intersection of humor, dogs, and hardship. Totally relatable, easy to read, great for just pondering your own relationships and friendships.

This is one of the most skillfully written books I have ever read. It took me to places in my heart I had forgotten existed. Feelings wereresurrected I thought I had healed. Caldwell so aptly expresses what I've never been able to put into words. This book truly consumes thereader.

Touchingly beautiful and well written memoir honoring the precious intangible gifts of friendship. It is the things we have in common that make us friends to start, but in the end it is more. It is what you don't have in common that fills the holes and gaps and lifts you when you need it most. Descriptively capturing from its first paragraphs to its end. She speaks of her personal struggles with addiction, redemption and the navigation of life through the lens of grief. Read it with my elderly dog at my side. Tissues required. No greater gifts than a dear friends and good dogs. I hope Tula will star I her own story some day.

Loved this book. I'd read about it somewhere and immediately got it. A really touching story. Though you know what's going to happen from the beginning, it still gets you when it comes up. It made me wish for such a close friendship.

A dear friend of mine, who is also a writer and an avid reader, sent this book to me as a gift. Even though it started out slowly, I could see why my friend thought so highly of this memoir to share it with me. It is quite literary and personal; there are passages in the book that are beautifully written. But the story really hooked me when the author began to share her own experience with alcoholism. It was then that I was completely drawn into her world and could see the naked honesty in which she revealed what it's like to live a dual existence - the dedicated professional and the insecure drinker who could never leave town with out hefty provisions of booze. The relationship between the two authors became more real to me after that; I was able to understand and feel the profound bonds she had alluded to earlier. It also explained her deep desire for solitude and why finding, and then losing, someone who fit her character and experiences so perfectly had such a profound effect on her life. This memoir has a lot to offer and I would strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a tale of friendship, heartache and triumph.

I took this on my three month trip to Vietnam. It was very helpful, but now with the internet you don't really need it. Vietnam has Wifi EVERYWHERE! Even in some of their busses, it's crazy. That being said, I used Trip Advisor way more than I did the book, but the book was something helpful to have when I first arrived because it helped me understand what I should expect in the beginning of my trip.

Used this all over on our trip to Vietnam in April 2017. It's easy to read, gives great recommendations for places to visit, see, stay, eat, etc. We've used the Lonely Planet books to help plan all our international vacations. Can't go wrong. We really loved the little bit about Cambodia as well since we visited there on the trip and didn't have to buy a whole separate book! Hope to be able to use this again to visit Central Vietnam! Get the book, you'll love it too!

This was very helpful for basic information, and very good for the more well traveled areas, but so far as small cities like Pleiku, my destination, a bit disappointing. Pleiku is not a tourist destination, and the book is clear about that, but it was my destination, so I was somewhat disappointed in the information I could just as easily gleaned from the internet. What makes all of the :Lonely Planet Guides very useful is the background information about the country and people, the major tourist cities are well covered.

A Luddite, I know, but I still love a good guide book to look over options before a trip. This one seems as good as the LP's usually are. I have a friend who just returned from Vietnam, and her experiences with hotels, transportation, etc. matched almost to the letter what the LP says - and she didn't consult any guidebooks before heading out. My only wish is that LP would expand on mid-level places to stay for those of us past our super-budge backpacker days, but not wanting a resort experience.

This was the only guide we found with good information for traveling in the northern area. Lonely planet has been exceeding my expectations since I bought my first guide for China in the 1990's. Thanks LP!

Lonely planet is out go to travel guide, we buy for every trip we go on in this beautiful world. We used this guide during our 19 day Vietnam trip in November and were not disappointed. We ate at many restaurants and used many tour guides it recommended. Even this day and age when you can access most information online, my husband and I love to carry our travel guides around on our trips to plan the following days while we sit in cafes. During our trips we like to stay offline as much as possible to be “in the moment” so these books are invaluable!

So far I'm just using the book to plan our trip, and as usual it's a great help. Lonely Planet can be counted on for clear instructions, good maps, and lots of interesting suggestions beyond the obvious highlights. In this the Vietnam guide, I'm noticing that directions for travel between points ("getting there and away") is not as detailed as in other LP guides, and I hope this won't be a drawback when travelling - that is, I hope that it won't be hard to get more specific tips from our guesthouses, etc.

I just spent 2 weeks in Vietnam. This book was great for planning the trip. The color maps are great for reference during the trip. . For the major cities they do a good job of noting the major sites to visit. Overall this is the best travel guide for Vietnam.
